During the resolution phase, specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) are produced at the affected tissue site, orchestrating the resolution-related activities and facilitating the return to homeostasis. 18-hydroxyeicosapentaenoic acid (18-HEPE) and 17-hydroxydocosahexaenoic acid (17-HDHA) are two important SPMs derived from the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), respectively, via enzymatic pathways.
