In this video, Dr. Angela Maas, a clinical cardiologist speaking at the recent Erasmus Medical Center Women’s Health Conference in Rotterdam, discusses how women are not small men and that there are numerous events that occur in the heart health of the aging woman. In this presentation, Dr. Maas provides numerous data and studies that delineate how heart health in women is vastly different from their male counterparts and should be managed accordingly. Added to this is the fact that today’s adult female population is less healthy than predecessors and we really should begin caring for heart health earlier. Describing microvascular risk, Dr. Maas explores case studies and how clinical presentations may differ in women as compared to men. As she states, “Men are as old as their arteries, but women are as old as their microvasculature.”
