Inflammation – Conflicting Outcomes, Todd Rice, MD: ASPEN 2015

Todd Rice, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Vanderbilt University, reviews, “Inflammation: Conflicting Outcomes – New Solutions Needed,” presented at ASPEN Clinical Nutrition Week 2015 focused on the topic of inflammation. In this podcast Dr. Rice discusses inflammation in both acute and critical illness.

The inflammatory cascade is thought to be part of the body’s natural defense. This inflammation has been linked to additional trauma to the body internally, within the organs and causes infection, ultimately affecting mortality. Dr. Rice introduces new “Novel Anti-Inflammatory Agents” in acute critical illness, where there is modulation of the inflammatory response.
