In this video, Maryam Kavousi, MD, PhD, FESC and Professor of Cardiology at Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, discusses cardiovascular risk prediction, the multiplicative nature of risk factors and how communicating these risk factors to patients can lead to greater awareness and, potentially, reduction in CV events. Dr. Kavousi reviews the new ASCVD risk calculator along with the ASCVD (Athersclerotic Cardiovascular Disease) Guidelines released by the American College of Cardiology which have included various changes from previous years. These include: a focus on 10 year risk of ASCVD, coronary heart disease and ischemic heart disease along with recommending treatment in those with as low a risk for ASCVD as 5-7.5%
