Improving the body’s control of blood glucose is an important strategy for patients with diabetes, pre-diabetes, or metabolic syndrome to improve their health. An innovative medical food specially formulated for glucose control can help.

The food delivers a balanced ratio of macronutrients, consistent with guidelines of Joslin Diabetes Center and Brandeis University that consists of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat. It also has a blend of fiber and slow-release carbohydrates that maintain a sustained glucose response, avoiding the blood sugar spike that occurs with glucose.

The medical food was tested in an open-label 3-way comparative study at Joslin Diabetes Center. Subjects who were enrolled in the study came to the Center for three visits on three separate days. On each visit, subjects fasted overnight and then ate a breakfast with a caloric value of 200 kilocalories, consisting of the novel medical food, an established medical food, or regular oatmeal. It was found that the novel medical food led to achievement of a sustained and balanced glucose response. Further, the early phase insulin response results in sustained and balanced glucose control (GLP-1) without a hypoglycemic effect. It also has a great taste, which helps increase compliance and satiety.
